FTII Itanagar Students Boycott Semester Over Infrastructure Issues
Students at the Film and Television Institute of India in Itanagar are refusing to start their second semester classes.
They say the campus is not ready and lacks important things like studios, classrooms, and medical support.
They have complained to the authorities multiple times and even stopped classes twice before, but nothing has changed.
Now, they are very upset because new students are not being admitted either, which makes them wonder why they were admitted in the first place when conditions were worse.
They even tried to talk to the officials during a film festival but were ignored.
Students of Screen Acting and Documentary Cinema at FTII Itanagar are boycotting their second semester classes.
They cite severe infrastructural shortcomings, including an unfinished campus and lack of basic facilities.
Complaints were filed with SRFTI Kolkata and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting as early as December 2024.
Students undertook two academic halts in March and May 2025 but resumed classes following assurances that did not materialize.
Fresh admissions for 2025 have been reportedly put on hold due to the lack of infrastructure.
