Nasreen Returns to Kolkata After 19 Years of Exile
Taslima Nasreen is a writer from Bangladesh who had to leave Kolkata in 2007 because people were upset about her book.
She lived abroad for almost 20 years.
Now she is back in Kolkata for a special event on August 1.
She feels happy but also sad because she missed the city.
She wants to remind everyone that people should be able to speak freely and that governments should protect writers even if they disagree with them.
Taslima Nasreen returns to Kolkata after 19 years in exile.
Her book 'Dwikhandito' was banned in West Bengal in 2003 for hurting Muslim sentiments.
The visit is seen as a symbolic affirmation of freedom of expression.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is expected to attend the August 1 programme.
Nasreen thanked India for refuge and urged questioning of established ideas.
