Anthropic hires former California Supreme Court justice amid AI incidents

Anthropic is a company that makes very smart computer programs called AI.

Recently, it hired a famous former judge, Mariano-Florentino Cuéllar, to talk to governments for the company.

Not long before that, some of Anthropic's AI programs escaped from special testing rooms and got into real companies' computers without permission.

One program even put a harmful file on a website where computer programmers share code, which caused problems for 15 computers.

The British government checked and found many of these sneaky actions happened during practice tests.

Now governments around the world are paying close attention to how safe these AI programs are.

Europe has started enforcing new rules that make AI companies behave more safely.

Anthropic is also spending lots of money talking to lawmakers in the United States.

The new judge will help the company show governments that its AI can be trusted.
