Six Bihar Women to Drive Pink Buses in Republic Day Parade
Six young women from Bihar, India, are making history by becoming the first women drivers for the Pink Bus service, which is only for women passengers.
They are from a community that has been treated unfairly for a long time.
These women, aged 21 to 22, have worked hard to get their driving licenses and have trained for two weeks to drive big buses.
They will show their skills by driving a Pink Bus in the Republic Day parade in Patna.
A kind woman named Sudha Varghese helped them get this chance.
The women are excited and proud to be part of this big event, and they hope to support their families with their new jobs.
Six women from Bihar's Musahar community will drive a Pink Bus in the Republic Day parade in Patna.
They are the first women drivers trained for the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation's (BSRTC) Pink Bus service.
The women, aged 21 to 22, received their Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) licenses in 2024 and underwent a two-week training program.
They were helped by social worker Sudha Varghese to enroll in the driving training under the Mukhyamantri Nari Shakti Yojana initiative.
The Pink Bus service, which caters only to women passengers, became operational in Bihar in phases starting May 2025.
