IWAI Boosts Uttar Pradesh Inland Waterways Expansion
The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has signed big agreements to improve and expand the waterways in Uttar Pradesh.
They plan to invest a lot of money to make river travel better, build new cruise ships, and create facilities for fixing ships.
They also want to make the rivers cleaner and more eco-friendly.
This will help tourism and make it easier to transport goods.
The projects include building new cruise terminals, setting up electric charging stations for boats, and training people for jobs in this sector.
All these efforts are part of India's plan to modernize its rivers and make them important for the economy and the environment.
IWAI signed agreements worth Rs 6,000 crore for the development and expansion of Inland Waterways in Uttar Pradesh.
Investments include Rs 800 crore for cruise tourism, Rs 350 crore for a ship repair facility, and Rs 200 crore for new river cruise terminals.
Projects aim to strengthen river cruise tourism, ship repair infrastructure, multimodal connectivity, and clean-energy transportation along National Waterway-1 (Ganga).
A Rs 100 crore project will promote electric vessel charging infrastructure, aligning with India’s National Green Shipping Mission.
A Rs 200 crore initiative will establish a Regional Centre of Excellence in Varanasi for skill development in inland water transport operations.
