Maharashtra Steps Up Rescue Of Tourists Stranded In Nepal

Floods in Nepal left some tourists from Maharashtra unable to travel home.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told officials to help them quickly and safely.

Officials said 404 Maharashtra citizens were safe and 338 had been contacted.

Some people have already returned to India.

Another group was traveling home through Bihar toward Nagpur.

Forty-five tourists reached Indian territory after changing their route because roads to Kathmandu were closed.

Officials are using helplines and a 24-hour control room to coordinate help.

They are still trying to reach eight tourists from Mumbai areas whose phone connections are not working properly.
