Village Human Rights Committees Proposed in Maharashtra
Imagine each village in Maharashtra having its own special group to help people understand their rights and make sure they are treated fairly.
A local activist wants each village to create a committee with the village leader, a government worker, and a policewoman.
These groups will teach people about their rights, help them if those rights are violated, and take action if the local police do not.
The groups will have women and people from communities that are often treated unfairly.
They can also get help from retired officials.
This idea is supported by leaders of many villages and is a call to villagers to make sure this idea comes to fruition.
Activist proposes village-level human rights committees in Maharashtra.
The committees will promote awareness and prevent human rights violations.
The committees will include the village sarpanch or a local woman, gram sevak or police patil, and a female police representative.
The committees will help victims lodge complaints and escalate matters.
The Sarpanch Parishad is appealing to get gram sabhas to pass resolutions.
