T-Mobile Challenges Musk’s Starlink Mobile Strategy in Cities

SpaceX wants Starlink satellites to help mobile phones connect in places with few cell towers.

T-Mobile says Starlink Mobile would not be a serious wireless competitor.

A T-Mobile executive said the company’s plans have changed often.

He also said buildings could block satellite signals in cities.

SpaceX is considering placing small antennas on buildings and homes.

These antennas are called femtocells.

T-Mobile estimates that about 1 billion femtocells might be needed to match existing cellular coverage.

Starlink may still be useful for people in remote areas.

Replacing a nationwide mobile network would require much more equipment.
