IFS Officer Raises Tigress as Daughter

IFS Officer Raises Tigress as Daughter

In 1974, a forest officer named Saroj Raj Choudhury and his wife found a baby tigress named Khairi alone by a river in Odisha, India.

She was too young to survive on her own, so they took her home and raised her like their own child.

Khairi grew up drinking milk from their hands, sleeping beside them, and playing with them.

She formed a strong bond with the couple.

Saroj tried to release her back into the wild, but Khairi kept returning home.

Sadly, Khairi died in 1981 from rabies after being bitten by a dog.

Her loss deeply affected Saroj, who passed away not long after.

Nihar continued to call Khairi her daughter until her final days.

Their story shows how humans can form deep connections with wildlife and the importance of understanding and respecting nature.
