Teens Triumph Over AI in International Math Olympiad
Imagine a super-tough math test for really smart kids.
This test is called the International Mathematical Olympiad, or IMO.
This year, some super-smart teenagers competed against AI (computer brains) like Google's Gemini and OpenAI's ChatGPT.
The AI systems tried to solve the same hard math problems as the kids.
The cool part?
Some of the teens did even BETTER than the computer brains!
They got perfect scores, something the AI couldn't do.
Although the AI did pretty well, they didn't win against the teens.
It's like humans still have an edge when it comes to creative problem-solving, even against advanced technology.
Teens at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) outperformed AI models like Gemini and ChatGPT.
The 2025 IMO was held in Queensland, Australia, with 641 participants under 20 from 112 countries.
Five teens achieved perfect scores of 42 points, surpassing both AI models.
Google's Gemini earned a gold medal score of 35 points.
OpenAI's ChatGPT also scored 35 points in the competition.
