RBI Intervenes to Halt Rupee's Slide
The Indian rupee was falling a lot and was about to reach 90 per U.S. dollar, which is a very low point.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) stepped in to stop this from happening.
They sold dollars to make the rupee stronger.
The rupee is still not doing great, but the RBI's actions helped it a little.
The rupee is falling because of many things, like people not buying Indian things as much and a lack of a trade deal with the U.S. The RBI is trying to keep the rupee from falling too much, but it's not easy.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) intervened aggressively to halt the rupee's slide towards 90 per U.S. dollar.
The rupee was trading at 89.16 per U.S. dollar, up 0.35% on the day of the intervention.
The RBI sold dollars on the order-matching platform and in the non-deliverable forward market to lift sentiment.
The lack of progress on a US-India trade agreement and a widening trade deficit have weighed on the rupee.
Analysts suggest the rupee could weaken further unless a credible catalyst, like a trade deal, emerges.
