Delhi Eases Rules for New Private Schools, Removes Requirements

Delhi has changed some rules for private schools.

A school planned on privately owned commercial land no longer needs an assessment of whether local people need it.

A school applying for recognition also no longer has to show that its area needs another school.

The changes amend two rules from 1973.

They took effect when they were published in the Gazette on September 30.

Educationists said the changes may be part of a bigger move towards private schooling.

The draft did not receive any objections or suggestions.

It had approval from the central government.
