India Weighs Nationwide Analogue Paneer Ban, Food Chief Says

India is checking restaurants and packaged foods more carefully.

The food safety chief said food-rule compliance is slowly improving.

Some states have banned analogue paneer, which is made partly from ingredients other than milk.

The national food authority may consider a countrywide ban after meeting all states on September 24.

The goal is to make sure people buying paneer get milk-based paneer.

New labels may warn shoppers when foods contain high amounts of sugar, salt or fat.

These labels will need a draft rule, public comments and time for companies to change packaging.

Online shopping platforms will also need to show product manufacturing and expiry dates clearly.
