West Bengal to Table OBC Survey in Assembly, Identifies 140 Sub-Groups
The government in West Bengal is doing a new survey to figure out which groups of people should get special help (reservations) because they are considered 'Other Backward Classes' (OBC).
They plan to present this survey in the assembly soon.
The survey found 140 different groups that might qualify.
The state wants to keep the current level of help, which is 17% of certain jobs and opportunities.
Some older certificates were cancelled by a court, so the government is checking again to make sure everything is done fairly.
This is because a court found that some people were incorrectly labeled as OBC.
