Australian shares rise on Wall Street gains and oil prices
Australian shares went up on Monday.
This happened because Wall Street in the U.S. did well, and oil prices went up.
The biggest gains were in banks, consumer discretionary stocks, and energy stocks.
Banks like the 'big four' and Macquarie did better.
Energy stocks went up because of problems in Iran and Ukraine that might affect oil supply.
Consumer discretionary stocks had their biggest gain in over four months.
Miners did a bit worse, especially BHP, because iron ore prices went down.
Gold stocks did well too.
In New Zealand, shares also went up a little bit.
Meanwhile, there are big protests in Iran where more than 500 people have died, and over 10,600 have been arrested.
President Trump is thinking about different ways to respond, including military options.
Australian shares rose 0.8% on Monday, tracking an upbeat Wall Street session and higher oil prices.
Financials advanced 1.2%, with the 'big four' banks climbing between 0.9% and 1.7%, and Macquarie rising 1.1%.
Energy stocks gained 1.2%, with Woodside adding 1.2% and Santos rising 1%, due to concerns over supply disruptions from Iran.
Consumer discretionary stocks climbed 2%, posting their biggest intraday gain in more than four months.
Miners slipped 0.1%, weighed down by a 1% decline in BHP, while gold stocks rose 2.5%.
