UP Official Challenges Quashing of Student’s NSA Detention

UP Official Challenges Quashing of Student’s NSA Detention

A Delhi University student named Akriti Chaudhary joined a protest supporting workers in Noida.

The district magistrate ordered that she be held under a national-security law.

The Allahabad High Court cancelled that detention order.

It said there was not enough evidence that the student had caused violence or threatened public order.

The court also said officials had relied too much on guesses and opinions.

It ordered Rs 5 lakh to be paid to Chaudhary.

The money may be recovered from the salaries of officials found responsible.

Now the district magistrate has asked the Supreme Court to consider the case.

The High Court said people can peacefully gather and speak up for causes without being treated as threats.
