CID To Investigate Hanur Shoot-Out As Tamil Group Challenges

Three suspected poachers were killed during an exchange of fire with forest patrolling personnel.

The incident happened on August 15 in the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary.

The police chief has now ordered the Criminal Investigation Department, or CID, to investigate.

The CID must receive the case files and prepare a detailed report.

Several police cases were already registered over the incident and later damage.

After the deaths, some nearby villagers attacked anti-poaching camps.

Buildings and vehicles belonging to forest workers were damaged.

A Tamil organisation called Tigers of Justice says it opposes the shooting.

It plans to collect signatures and ask the Karnataka High Court to examine the matter.
