UN Refugee Agency: Tens of Thousands Missing After Fleeing Al-Fashir, Sudan
Imagine a city in Sudan called al-Fashir.
A group called the RSF took it over.
Many people had to run away to be safe.
The UN, which helps refugees, said that almost 100,000 people left the city.
But they can only find about 10,000 of them at safe places.
This means tens of thousands of people are missing!
The UN is worried because people who ran away told them about terrible things like being shot, raped, and attacked by drones.
The journey for people trying to escape is very dangerous now because they have to avoid soldiers and checkpoints.
Some people have to travel a very long way to find safety.
It's also possible that some people couldn't leave the city because they were too scared or too sick to travel.
Now, the fighting has moved to another area, and the UN is worried more people will have to leave their homes.
Tens of thousands of people who fled al-Fashir, Sudan, are unaccounted for, according to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).
Nearly 100,000 people have fled al-Fashir since its fall to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on October 26.
Escapees have reported experiences of rape, killings, and civilians being shot or attacked by drones.
Journeys for the displaced are increasingly perilous as they avoid armed checkpoints, with some traveling up to 1,000 kilometers.
UNHCR expresses concern for the safety of the missing, as fighting shifts to the Kordofan region, potentially causing further displacement.
