Bengal Fire Services Add 226 Tenders, Plan 1,400 Hires
Bengal’s fire department received 226 new vehicles.
The vehicles will help firefighters carry water and reach difficult places.
Most of them are mid-sized water tenders.
Three special towers can reach 36 metres high.
They may be especially useful during fires in tall buildings.
The department also plans to hire 1,400 new workers.
The vehicles will be sent to busy areas, markets and industrial zones.
The announcement came after a hotel fire killed nine people and injured others.
Chief minister Suvendu Adhikari flagged off 226 new fire tenders in Bengal on Wednesday.
The department will recruit 1,400 fire operators, drivers, sub-officers and related personnel.
The ₹94 crore fleet includes 198 mid-sized water tenders, 25 larger tenders and three articulating water towers.
The new towers can reach 36 metres and may help firefighters tackle high-rise fires.
The announcement followed a Free School Street hotel fire that killed nine people and injured several others.
