Laos tightens weapons control, launches LAeID digital ID
Laos is a country.
The people who keep it safe held a big meeting in Vientiane, the capital city.
They talked about how to stop bad people from having guns and explosives.
These weapons can hurt people.
The meeting checked how the nationwide collection of weapons went over the last couple of years.
It also made a new plan for the next two years.
Laos also started a new app called LAeID to show who you are.
Old paper ID cards will no longer be accepted for official business.
This is part of Laos' plan to use more technology to make the country better.
Laos' Ministry of Public Security met in Vientiane to strengthen prevention and resolution of firearms and explosives-related crimes.
Minister Vanthong Kongmany chaired the meeting and described the illegal weapons trade as a highly profitable transnational crime.
Officials reviewed the nationwide firearms and explosives collection campaign for 2024-2026 and outlined priorities for 2026-2028.
Laos launched the LAeID application nationwide, and said old-style white and green identity cards will no longer be accepted for official transactions.
LAeID replaces the traditional census registration as part of Laos' broader digital transformation efforts.
