Indian Sugar Output Declines Due to Multiple Factors
India is making less sugar this year, about 18% less than before.
This is because there's less sugar cane to use, and the weather hasn't been great.
Also, some of the sugar cane is being used to make ethanol, which is mixed with gasoline to help the environment.
Even though they are making less sugar, the government is hoping for a better harvest next year, but they are also asking for some policy changes.
This is expected to help the sugar industry.
India's sugar production fell 18.38% to 25.82 million tonnes by July.
Total output for the season is expected to be 26.11 million tonnes, lower than the previous year.
Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Karnataka saw declines in sugar production.
Factors contributing to the decline include reduced sugarcane availability and adverse weather.
India achieved 20% ethanol blending with petrol, ahead of schedule.
