SEBI Extends Deadline for T+0 Settlement Framework Implementation
Imagine you sell a toy to a friend.
Normally, you get the money the next day.
But a new rule, called T+0 settlement, says you should get the money the very same day!
This is supposed to make trading stocks faster and safer.
However, the people who help you trade, called brokers, said they needed more time to get their computer systems ready for this new same-day rule.
So, the official rule-makers, SEBI, have given them more time.
They will announce a new date later, so everyone can get ready properly and trading stays smooth for everyone.
SEBI has extended the deadline for brokers to implement the optional T+0 settlement framework.
The previous deadline was November 1, 2025, itself an extension from May 1, 2025.
Brokers cited operational and technological challenges in meeting the earlier deadlines.
The T+0 settlement aims to settle trades on the same day, enhancing market liquidity and reducing risk.
SEBI aims to ensure a smooth transition and investor convenience by allowing more preparation time.
