Tollywood Faces Severe Financial Crisis
Tollywood is facing a big money problem.
Producers are borrowing a lot of money to make movies, but the interest on these loans is growing so fast that it's becoming harder to pay back.
For example, a movie called Akhanda 2 borrowed 11 crore rupees, but the interest made the total debt 28 crore rupees.
Producers say directors sometimes take too long to finish shooting, which makes the problem worse.
There are also fewer people willing to lend money, and those who do charge very high interest rates.
Some producers are now trying to get money from big companies in Mumbai, but it's not easy.
This is making it very difficult for them to make and release movies.
Interest payments on loans in Tollywood now exceed principal amounts, causing financial distress for producers.
Akhanda 2's principal loan was Rs 11 crore, but total liability due to interest reached Rs 28 crore.
Extended shooting schedules and delayed release dates compound financial problems for producers.
There are only two active financiers left in the Telugu film industry, charging high interest rates of 18-24% per annum.
Producers are turning to Mumbai-based corporate houses and media companies for funding, but options are limited.
