Rupee Hits Record Low Amid Market Volatility
The Indian rupee has reached a new low of 91.08 against the US dollar, which is the lowest it has ever been.
This happened because foreign investors are selling a lot of Indian stocks and there is a high demand for dollars.
The stock market also opened lower today, with the Sensex and Nifty both down.
The government said that the rupee is falling because of a bigger trade deficit and problems with the trade deal with the US.
The IMF has given India a 'C' grade for its GDP data, but this doesn't mean the economy is doing badly.
The government is planning to update the way it calculates GDP to make it more accurate.
The rupee has fallen 5.1% this year, and it might keep falling.
The RBI is trying to stabilize the rupee, but it's still getting weaker.
The Indian rupee hit a record low of 91.08 against the US dollar on December 16, 2025, before closing at 91.01.
Persistent foreign investor outflows and high demand for dollars are pressuring the rupee.
The stock market opened lower, with the Sensex and Nifty both down, due to the rupee's decline and FPI outflows.
The government attributed the rupee's fall to a widening trade deficit and delays in the India-US trade agreement.
The IMF gave India a 'C' grade for its GDP data, but the overall data adequacy assessment is 'B'.
