Manulife Shares Decline on US Losses, Despite Asia Gains
Manulife, an insurance company, saw its stock price fall because its profits were not as high as experts expected.
This was mainly because the company had to pay out more money than usual in the United States, especially on large life insurance policies.
However, Manulife's business in Asia did very well.
The company also plans to buy a credit manager company.
Overall, the stock market hasn't been very good for Manulife this year.
The financial results also showed that Manulife’s profits were down in the U.S. division, but up in the Asia division.
Manulife Financial shares dropped over 3% following lower-than-expected quarterly earnings.
The earnings miss was primarily due to increased credit and mortality losses in the U.S. segment.
Manulife's Asia business showed strong performance, with core earnings up 13%.
The company announced it would acquire 75% of Comvest Credit Partners for over $1 billion.
Shares of Manulife have decreased by about 5% this year.
