Kerala High Court Clears Mohanlal in Manappuram Finance Case
The Kerala High Court has cleared actor Mohanlal in a case involving Manappuram Finance.
Two borrowers complained that they were promised a lower interest rate of 12% per annum in ads featuring Mohanlal, but were charged more.
The court said Mohanlal, as a brand ambassador, cannot be held responsible for the company's actions unless a direct link is proven.
The court also said the borrowers can still complain about the ads under the Consumer Protection Act.
Kerala High Court granted relief to actor Mohanlal in a consumer case against Manappuram Finance.
The complaint alleged unfair trade practices and higher interest rates than advertised.
The court ruled that Mohanlal, as a brand ambassador, cannot be held liable without a direct link to the transactions.
The complainants sought a refund of excess interest and Rs. 25 Lakh in compensation.
The court quashed the orders of the lower commissions and allowed the complainants to seek remedy under the Consumer Protection Act.
