Delhi Aims for 500 MW Rooftop Solar by 2027 Under PM Surya Ghar Scheme
Delhi wants to generate more solar power from rooftops.
Right now, they have enough solar panels on roofs to make 250 megawatts of electricity.
By the year 2027, they want to double that to 500 megawatts.
They are doing this by making it easier for people to get money (subsidies) to install solar panels and by making it faster to get them connected.
This is part of a big government plan called the PM Surya Ghar scheme.
Even though Delhi is a big city with lots of electricity use, especially in the hot summer, they are using solar power and other smart technology to make sure everyone has electricity.
They also want to have more electric buses and cars to help clean up the air.
Delhi aims to double its rooftop solar capacity to 500 MW by 2027, up from the current 250 MW.
The government is simplifying subsidy processes and expediting connections for the PM Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Yojana.
Delhi's peak power demand can exceed 8,000 MW during summer months.
The city's new Solar Policy promotes the idea of 'every rooftop as a power plant'.
Delhi also plans to electrify 80% of its public transport fleet by 2030 to reduce pollution.
