Delhi Court Acquits Former WFI Chief in Harassment Case
A court in Delhi decided that a former wrestling federation chief, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, and a helper, Vinod Tomar, were not guilty of hurting women wrestlers.
The wrestlers had said the chief had harassed them, and they even protested in front of a big building.
The police made a big report, but the judge said there wasn’t enough proof.
After more than two years of talking and listening, the judge said the men were free.
The wrestlers want to ask for another decision, but the chief is happy and will wait for the judge’s full explanation.
Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court acquitted former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and co-accused Vinod Tomar on August 3, 2026, in a sexual harassment case filed by six women wrestlers.
The case stemmed from protests at Jantar Mantar in 2023, where wrestlers alleged Singh had sexually harassed them during his tenure as WFI chief.
Delhi Police filed a 1,500‑page chargesheet in June 2023 under IPC sections 354, 354A, 354D and 506(1), but the court found insufficient evidence.
The trial lasted over two years, with final arguments heard in July 2026; the judge reserved judgment after hearing both sides in camera.
Wrestlers, including Olympians Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, plan to appeal the acquittal, while Singh expressed gratitude and said he would wait for the detailed order.
