Jammu and Kashmir Silk Industry Sees Revival, Production Up
The silk industry in Jammu and Kashmir is doing better!
Farmers are raising silkworms to make silk.
The government is helping by providing new programs and building places for the silkworms.
They made more cocoons and silk this year.
Also, they're teaching farmers how to make silk at different times of the year.
They are even providing plants and seeds for better silk production.
A special type of silk, bivoltine, is also helping because it's high quality and it means India doesn't need to buy as much silk from other places.
Jammu and Kashmir's silk industry sees revival with rising cocoon and raw silk production.
Cocoon production reached 850,000 kilograms in 2024-25, an 18% increase.
Raw silk output also increased, reaching 121,000 kilograms in 2024-25.
Government initiatives like Silk Samagra and the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme support the growth.
Bivoltine silk, known for its quality, is gaining national recognition.
