Mumbai University Senate Members Seek Postponement of Law Admissions
Some grown-ups who help run a big university in Mumbai noticed a problem.
Many students wanted to join law colleges, but the list of colleges where they could apply was incomplete.
Some very good law colleges were missing from that list.
The reason, they say, is that those colleges did not finish some paperwork.
The university helpers asked the Maharashtra government to wait before giving out law college seats.
They want every college to finish its paperwork first.
This way, all students can apply to the colleges they like.
They also worry that students who live near a missing college would have trouble getting there.
The leaders plan to meet the education minister soon to talk about it.
Mumbai University senate members have urged the Maharashtra government to defer admissions for three-year and five-year law courses.
Only 93 of 218 colleges offering the three-year LL.B. course and 56 of 161 offering the five-year integrated law programme are included in the Centralised Admission Process (CAP).
The representation alleges that prominent institutions, including Government Law College (GLC), Mumbai, are missing from the admission list.
Senate member Pradeep Sawant and former senate member Rajan Kolambekar submitted the representation to Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil.
They seek directions for the CET Cell to begin admissions only after all eligible law colleges complete the required formalities and join the CAP.
