India Advances Wildfire Management at UNEA-7
India recently had a big meeting at the United Nations about wildfires.
They said wildfires are becoming more common and worse because of climate change and people's activities.
India wants countries to work together to prevent wildfires and be ready for them.
They talked about using early warning systems and better planning to stop wildfires before they start.
India also mentioned a report that says wildfires could get much worse in the future if we don't do something about it.
They are working with other countries and organizations to make sure everyone is prepared and can protect their forests and communities.
India's resolution on strengthening global wildfire management was adopted at UNEA-7 with wide support from member states.
The resolution calls for stronger international cooperation, early warning systems, and better access to finance for wildfire prevention and management.
India emphasized the need to shift from reactive response to proactive prevention through better planning and early warning measures.
The UNEP report 'Spreading Like Wildfire' warns of a significant increase in wildfires by 2030, 2050, and 2100 if current trends continue.
India recognized the Global Fire Management Hub, established in 2023 by FAO and UNEP, as an important mechanism for international cooperation.
