Madras High Court Approves Karur New Year Festivities
The Madras High Court has allowed a village in Karur district to hold New Year's festivities on January 1, 2026.
The court said the events can happen if they don't include any bad or rude acts and don't cause any trouble.
A man named Shanmugapandiyan asked the court to help him get permission for the events.
The court told the police to decide about the permission by December 31.
The events will include sports and cultural programs like singing and dancing.
The court also said the police can provide protection if needed.
In the past, there have been criticisms about some dance performances being inappropriate during festivals.
The Supreme Court has said that such performances need permission from the local police.
The Madras High Court allowed a village in Karur district to organize New Year's festivities on January 1, 2026.
The events include sporting activities and a cultural program called 'Aadalum Paadalum'.
The court set the condition that no obscene acts or law and order issues should occur during the festivities.
The petitioner, Shanmugapandiyan, requested the court to direct the police to grant permission for the event.
The court directed the police to consider the representation and pass an order by December 31, 2025.
