India Approves One Chinese FDI, 13 Hong Kong Proposals in FY26
India’s government looked at all the money people from other countries wanted to put into Indian businesses.
In the last year, only one company from China got the green light, and it was a very small amount of money.
A bigger number of companies from Hong Kong got approved, but still less than a few hundred million rupees.
The government has rules that say any company from a country that shares a border with India needs extra permission.
They recently relaxed the rule a bit, letting companies that own less than 10% of a business use a faster approval path.
Singapore still sent the most money that got approved under the special rules, followed by the UK and Thailand.
India approved only one Chinese FDI proposal worth ₹1 crore in FY26, the lowest since 2024‑25.
Thirteen Hong Kong proposals totaling ₹610.42 crore were cleared, up from 11 in FY25.
A total of 63 FDI proposals were approved in FY26, worth ₹10,292.67 crore ($1.18 B).
Press Note 3, enacted in 2020, requires prior government clearance for FDI from land‑border countries; recent easing allows up to 10% non‑controlling ownership to use the automatic route.
Singapore remains the largest source of approved FDI under the government route, followed by the UK and Thailand.
