Assam Congress Leader Resigns Amid Controversy

A new leader in the Congress party in Assam, Rejaul Karim Sarkar, made a speech that some people found offensive.

He said that the development of one area, Sivasagar, should happen in another area, Dhubri, and vice versa.

Some people thought this meant he wanted to change the character of the areas, which caused a big argument.

The chief minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, was very upset and threatened to take strong action.

Mr. Sarkar then said he was sorry and explained that he might have used the wrong words because he is new to politics.

Some groups were still angry and said they would not support the Congress party if they did not remove Mr. Sarkar.

The leader of the opposition in the state said that Mr. Sarkar's words were not what the Congress party believes.

Later, Sarkar resigned from the Congress party, and the party said it would not affect their chances in the upcoming elections.

The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) said his resignation was expected and exposed what they described as a communal mindset among some Congress leaders.
