Bombay High Court Seeks Long-Term Kanjurmarg Waste Plan

The Bombay High Court wants Mumbai’s civic authority to make a long-term plan for handling garbage.

The court said it should not wait for another court order before planning alternatives to the Kanjurmarg dumping ground.

Kanjurmarg is near homes, a creek and mangroves.

People living nearby say the dumping ground causes bad smells, pollution and possible health problems.

The court also asked the authority to find places where garbage is often dumped around Mumbai.

It said those areas should be protected before rubbish piles up.

The civic authority said it was planning for the next 20 to 30 years.

The court also encouraged residents and local representatives to help keep the city clean.
