Beed Farmers Protest for Drought Declaration and Crop Compensation

Many farmers in Beed held a loud protest using traditional halgi drums.

They said a long lack of rain damaged their crops.

Soybean, cotton and millet were among the affected crops.

The farmers want the government to officially declare a drought in the district.

They also want officials to record the crop damage.

They are asking for ₹40,000 for every damaged acre.

They want their delayed crop insurance payments released.

Farmers from about 30 to 35 villages joined the protest.

Many women farmers also took part.
