Odisha Lynching Sparks Political Debate
A young man named Jewel Rana from West Bengal was killed in Odisha after a fight over cigarettes.
Some people said he was killed because he was from Bangladesh, but the police said that wasn't true.
A political leader's daughter, Iltija Mufti, tweeted about the incident and called the country 'Lynchistaan'.
Some people disagreed with her and said she only talks about certain cases.
The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, said the incident was part of a bigger problem of violence against people from West Bengal in other states.
She sent a police team to Odisha to investigate.
Meanwhile, Iltija's mother, Mehbooba Mufti, got upset when a journalist asked her to speak in a different language.
A 30-year-old migrant worker from West Bengal, Jewel Rana, was killed in Sambalpur, Odisha, following an altercation over a bidi.
Iltija Mufti tweeted about the incident, calling the country 'Lynchistaan' and sparking a debate on selective outrage.
Police dismissed claims of identity-based violence, stating the fight started over a dispute about bidis.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condemned the violence and sent a police team to Odisha for investigation.
Mamata Banerjee claimed migrant workers from Muslim-majority Murshidabad are returning home in fear due to atrocities in BJP-ruled states.
