Kerala minister: Governance must change with AI era
A leader in Kerala, India, opened a new building with special computer labs.
The labs work with artificial intelligence, which is technology that lets computers do smart things like people do.
The leader said the government must change its rules as technology grows.
This will help young people and businesses that come up with new ideas.
The new AI lab will build computer services that are easy for everyone to use.
These computers will learn to talk and listen in Malayalam, the local language, and in English.
They will also turn speech into writing and writing into natural speech.
The government wants more technology companies to invest in Kerala.
A new Malayalam computer font called Arali was also shown for the first time.
The government says it will keep the AI systems safe and under its full control.
Kerala Industries, Commerce, IT and AI minister P K Kunhalikutty inaugurated C-DIT's new ICT Complex, AI Lab and Security Lab at Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram.
He said governance systems and laws must change in tune with rapid technological developments in the artificial intelligence era to support young people and startups.
He called for investments suited to new technologies to come to the state, similar to Infopark and Technopark during the growth of the IT sector.
The new AI Lab will develop AI-based public services that are easy to use, with a special focus on the Malayalam language, including speech-to-text and natural speech technology.
C-DIT will build reusable public AI systems with data security under full government control, and released the new Malayalam font 'Arali' at the function.
