Shukla's ISS Mission: Bridging Spaceflight with Mars Research
Shubhanshu Shukla, an Indian Air Force pilot, is going to space for a mission on the International Space Station.
But, he's also a scientist!
He's been researching how to build homes on Mars.
One idea is BHEEM, a modular home that can be put together.
The other idea is to use bacteria to make bricks from Martian soil.
His work is like building the house and the bricks to make it on Mars!
Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla is set to participate in the Ax-4 mission to the ISS.
Shukla co-authored two scientific papers focusing on building habitats on Mars.
He developed a concept for a modular Martian habitat called BHEEM.
Shukla researched the use of bacteria to create 'Martian bricks' from Martian soil.
His research explores how to use local resources to build sustainable habitats on Mars.
