Anthocyanin-Rich Foods May Boost Heart and Metabolic Health

Anthocyanin-Rich Foods May Boost Heart and Metabolic Health

Some fruits and vegetables are red, purple, or blue because they contain special plant helpers called anthocyanins.

Berries, like blueberries, have lots of these helpers.

Scientists reviewed many studies about these colourful foods.

They found that people who ate more anthocyanins were 26% less likely to get heart disease.

They were also 18% less likely to have a heart attack, and their chances of getting type 2 diabetes were 11% lower.

The foods helped blood vessels work better and helped keep blood sugar levels healthy.

Eating about 50 milligrams a day was enough, which is easy with foods like blueberries.

The findings matter especially for India, where heart disease and diabetes are growing problems.

But no single food is a magic cure, and a balanced diet, exercise, sleep, and medical care matter most.
