Student Paper Leak Protest Shifts to Caste Conflict
A group of students in India started a protest on July 25 because exam papers were leaked.
They wanted the government to fix the exam system and be more honest.
The protest grew very big, with many students staying at a place called Jantar Mantar for more than a month.
But soon, the focus changed.
A new online movement called "Reservation Hatao Andolan" (RHA) said the problem was about caste quotas, not about fixing the exams.
This made the protest look like a fight between different social groups instead of a fight against corruption.
Some people worry that this change will make the protest lose its original goal of making exams fair for everyone.
Youth protest over leaked exam papers began on 25 July, led by the Cockroach Janta Party.
The movement gathered tens of thousands of students and staged a month‑long standoff at Jantar Mantar.
Within 72 hours, the focus shifted to the anti‑reservation campaign "Reservation Hatao Andolan" (RHA) with 5.8 million Instagram followers.
The RHA campaign frames the issue as a caste‑quota battle, diverting attention from systemic corruption and exam integrity.
Critics warn the shift risks reducing the movement to a caste‑merit dichotomy and undermining broader demands for accountability.
