Himachal Court Grants Bail to Woman in Dalit Boy's Death Case
A court in Himachal Pradesh, India, has granted bail to a woman from an upper caste who was accused of locking a 12-year-old Dalit boy in a cowshed.
The boy later died after consuming something poisonous.
The judge said the woman should not be kept in jail for too long and that she deserves special consideration because she is a woman.
The court also said the report about the case was not clear enough.
The woman was charged with beating the boy and locking him up, saying he would not be freed until a goat was brought as a sacrifice.
The Himachal Pradesh High Court granted bail to an upper-caste woman accused of confining a Dalit boy in a cowshed.
The boy, aged 12, allegedly consumed poison and died during treatment in September 2025.
Justice Rakesh Kainthla noted that the woman is entitled to 'special consideration' and cannot be detained indefinitely.
The court criticized the status report filed in the case as 'highly vague'.
The woman was charged with abetting the boy's death by confining him in the cowshed.
