India's Electronic Manufacturing Attracts Record Investment
India is trying to make more electronic parts at home.
A government plan called ECMS offered money to companies that make things like phone parts and circuit boards.
Companies are investing heavily in these projects, with commitments reaching over ₹1.1 trillion, nearly doubling the target.
This should help reduce the amount of parts India imports, especially circuit boards.
Companies are also partnering with others and raising money to help them.
A potential issue is that high tariffs in the US, a key export market, could make things more difficult.
The Electronic Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) received over ₹1.1 trillion in commitments.
The ECMS aims to boost production of components like camera modules and PCBs.
Companies like Dixon Technologies, Amber Enterprises, and Syrma SGS are investing.
India currently imports about 90% of its PCB needs.
Tariff risks in the US pose challenges for exports.
