Punjab and Haryana HC hikes compensation for accident victim
A man named Ram Singh was in a bus accident a long time ago.
The bus hit a mule and then a tree, and Ram Singh got hurt really badly.
He couldn't work properly after that.
A court first said he should get Rs 1 lakh to help him, but another court later said that wasn't enough.
They decided he should get almost six times more money because his injuries were very serious.
The new amount is Rs 5,91,500.
The court also said the money should earn more money over time if it's not given quickly.
Ram Singh suffered 40% permanent disability in a 2006 bus accident involving a mule and a tree.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court enhanced his compensation from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5,91,500.
The court found the initial compensation grossly meagre and disproportionate to his injuries.
The accident occurred around 3:30 am on November 26-27, 2006, near Chikanwas village in Haryana.
The court also increased the interest rate on the compensation to 9% per annum, rising to 12% if not paid within three months.
