Mumbai to Conduct Tree Census After 8 Years
Mumbai is getting ready to count its trees again after a long break.
The city government is using special tools like Ground Penetrating Radar to look at the tree roots and see how healthy they are.
The last time they counted, there were about 30 lakh trees, but they expect more now because they've planted a lot of new trees.
The project will help them understand the environment better and plan to keep and grow green areas.
This will cost a lot of money, and the city faced criticism for not doing this sooner.
Mumbai is set to conduct a tree census after an eight-year gap.
The census will utilize Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to examine tree root systems.
The project will assess parks and playgrounds in Mumbai.
The last census in 2018 recorded approximately 29.75 lakh trees.
The estimated cost of the project is over Rs 5 crore, and it is set to begin in early 2026.
