Karnataka HC Calls for Probe on Illegal Sand Mining
The Karnataka High Court has started an investigation on its own about illegal sand mining in the rivers of Karnataka.
The court thinks this is a very serious problem and believes that a special team or a central agency should look into it.
The court said this because the Home Minister mentioned that powerful people from different political parties are involved, and the state's usual methods might not be enough to stop this illegal activity.
The court is worried that without proper action, the illegal sand mining will continue.
Karnataka High Court initiated suo motu proceedings on illegal sand mining in the state.
The court described the issue as serious and called for a court-monitored investigation.
A division bench of Justice D K Singh and Justice Tara Vitasta Ganju took cognizance of media reports.
The court expressed concern over the involvement of influential people from various political parties.
The court suggested that a central agency or a Special Investigation Team should handle the probe.
