Rajasthan Scraps Two-Child Policy for Local Body Election Candidates
Imagine there's a rule in some towns in Rajasthan that says if you have more than two kids, you can't run for a local job like mayor or town council.
This rule was made a long time ago to try and slow down how fast the population was growing.
But now, the government thinks this rule isn't fair and stops good people from being leaders just because of their family size.
So, they are planning to get rid of this rule.
This means more people, even those with three or more children, will be able to ask people to vote for them in local elections.
This could lead to more choices for voters and more people involved in making decisions for their towns.
Rajasthan government plans to remove the two-child policy for candidates in local body elections.
The current rule disqualifies individuals with more than two children born after November 27, 1995.
Amendments to the Rajasthan Panchayati Raj Act and Rajasthan Municipalities Act are being prepared.
The proposed change aims to allow more people to participate in local governance and elections.
Urban Development and Housing Minister stated that personal matters should not affect the right to participate in democracy.
