Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei Appoints Six New Military Commanders

Iran is a country with a big military, including an army and special soldier groups called the Revolutionary Guards.

The most important leader in Iran is called the Supreme Leader, and right now that person is Mojtaba Khamenei.

He chose six new leaders for the military, kind of like picking new team captains after some old captains were hurt.

The old military leaders were killed in strikes carried out by the United States and Israel.

Ali Abdollahi is now the top leader of all of Iran's armed forces.

Ahmad Vahidi will lead the special soldier group called the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Two other new leaders will run the Guards' navy and a volunteer force called the Basij.

Some of these new leaders had already been doing their jobs, but now they have official orders from the Supreme Leader.

The changes happened while talks about the Strait of Hormuz, an important waterway where ships carry oil and gas, have stalled.

Many people think the new leaders will take a tougher approach to the presence of foreign military forces in the region.
