ONGC to Reserve Half of New Mangaluru Oil Storage
India’s biggest oil company, ONGC, is building a big oil storage in Mangaluru.
The company will keep half of this new storage for the country’s emergency oil supply.
This helps India be ready if oil supplies get short.
The government already has other storage sites in Mangaluru, Padur, and Vizag.
India plans more storage in Odisha and Padur, and the land for the new site in Odisha was bought for about 9,000 crore rupees.
The new storage will help India store enough oil to cover 74 days of its imports.
This is part of a bigger plan to keep the country safe from oil shortages.
ONGC will reserve half of its planned 1.75 million‑tonne storage for strategic needs.
The new facility is in Mangaluru, Karnataka, near a 300,000‑barrel‑per‑day refinery.
India’s existing strategic reserve holds 5.33 million tonnes across Mangaluru, Padur, and Vizag.
Additional storage of 4 million tonnes is planned at Chandikhol, Odisha, and 2.5 million tonnes at Padur.
ISPRL has acquired land for Chandikhol, costing ₹9,000 crore ($944 million).
