Chennai: Officials Seize 170 Illegal Water Pumps in Adyar
Imagine some houses are taking too much water, so the other houses on the street don't get enough.
Officials found that many houses that rent rooms (PGs) were using special pumps to suck up all the water before it could reach other homes.
These PG houses often didn't have permission to operate, weren't paying proper taxes, and were using the cheaper electricity.
Now, the city is checking these places to make sure they follow the rules, and if they don't, they might have to pay fines or even close down.
Metrowater officials seized 170 illegal water pumps in Adyar.
Most pumps were found in unlicensed paying guest (PG) accommodations.
Pumps draw water directly, disrupting equitable distribution to residents.
PGs often lack permits, evade taxes, and avoid higher electricity tariffs.
Joint inspections by city corporation and Tangedco are planned.
